June 2025, World: UNICEF and ILO’s joint publication on Child Labour
Although in 2015 the world made a promise to end child labour by 2025, this phenomenon still affects nearly 138 million children worldwide. The report emphasizes the urgency of action and reiterates that success is possible through policy commitment, resources, and coordination across sectors and regions. Child labour often blocks the path to a better future that begins with schooling.
CHIP joins the UNICEF and the ILO stating the necessity to “strengthen legal protections against child labour, aligned with international standards and starting with universal birth registration, to lay the groundwork for effective prevention and enforcement.”
By using birth registration to prevent child labour, States contribute to safeguarding children from exploitation, minimising unnecessary separation from their families and preserving their family identity, and strengthening child protection systems.
