
Preserving and restoring identities of children affected by armed conflict
Hosted in Geneva by Paix pour l’Enfance International founded by former child soldier Junior Nzita Nsuami – the world summit on children affected by armed conflict focused on access to justice and effective remedies. With leading experts including the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict since October 2025, various members of the CRC Committee such as Philip Jaffe, Mikiko Otani and Benoît van Keirsbilck and specialist Cécile Aptel. Child Identity Protection had the privilege of organise a session preserving children’s identities during these armed conflicts with:
- Ton Liefaardfrom the Leiden University Advanced Studies in International Children’s Rights as moderator
- Bhaskar Mishrafrom UNICEF on building robust CRVS systems including for emergencies
- Anne Laakko from UNHCR on measures to prevent childhood statelessness
- Mark Waddington from Hope and Homes for Childrenon the dangers of residential care for children including higher mortality rates
- Zoé Bertrandfrom Global Survivors Fund on the importance for children born from conflict related sexual violence to have a legal identity
- Kristele Younesthe UNRWA on the necessity of robust archives for family preservation, culture and history
CHIP looks forward to pursuing conversations with relevant actors to ensure that every child can enjoy their identity during times of peace and war.
