Submission of inputs into global report on the human rights of migrants

Child Identity Protection (CHIP) is pleased to share the inputs it submitted to inform the report of the Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants to be presented to the General Assembly. Its submission focuses on children’s rights to identity anf family relations in the context of migration and asylum policies, by offering examples of the domestic, regional and global mechanisms, including recent opportunities, remaining challenges and promising practices in line with Article 8(2) of the UNCRC. In particular, it focused on the right to family life and its interdependence with other human rights, protecting children from family separation, realising the right to family reunification, and promoting child- and family-centered migration and regularization pathways.

CHIP welcomes the opportunity to further incorporate the rights of children to identity in forthcoming discussions about children’s and human rights in the context of migration, in particular as these complex circumstances may jeopardise or raise further risks for children’s protection.
